For a limited time, namely on November 27, 28 and 29, "Canaletto in Venice," a film focusing on Canaletto, the great Antonio Canal, is coming to theaters.
Following Van Gogh and Bosch, the “Great Art in Cinema” cycle will introduce us to the works of the 18th-century Venetian vedutista, many of which were displayed in the exhibition “Canaletto and the Art of Venice,” recently held at theQueen’s Gallery at Buckingham Palace (it closed last Nov. 12, 2017). The viewer will be introduced to Canaletto’s art through three stages: Images, of the works, the exhibition and Venice; Words, those of the exhibition curators, historians and art experts; and Music, of the operas that resonated in the crowded 18th-century theaters.
To delve deeper into the subject, the film will focus on the figure of Joseph Smith, a British consul in Venice who engaged in commerce but whose interest soon broadened to art.
Having become an important patron in the city, the consul established a long and fruitful relationship with Canaletto. The film is directed by David Bickerstaff, who co-wrote it with Phil Grabsky, and is available in HD and 4K.
To find out in which theaters the film will be shown, you can visit the website of Nexo Digitale, the film’s distributor in Italy.
