English composer and visual artist Brian Eno (Woodbridge, 1948) will inaugurate two multimedia installations, Audio Installation for Buonconsiglio and 77 Million Painting for Beseno, in the historic spaces of Castello del Buonconsiglio and Castel Beseno in Trentino on August 19, 2022. Strongly desired by the Autonomous Province of Trento and organized by the Santa Chiara Cultural Services Center, with the collaboration of Buonconsiglio Castle and Trentino Marketing and the production of Alessandro Albertini and Giuseppe Putignani, the unprecedented project entitled Brian Eno x Trentino will animate the city of Trento until November.
Starting from an idea of art as an expressive form capable of dialoguing with the environment and the viewer, Brian Eno uses different media to merge music and visual arts, creating soundscapes. Using displays, constantly moving images, and acoustic speakers, he creates a combinatorial interplay to endless variations of shapes, lights, and sounds.
The artist will create on this line the Audio Installationfor Buonconsiglio (Aug. 19 to Nov. 6), a site-specific audio installation consisting of works conceived and created based on the spaces that will host them to give life to a dynamic flow of sounds. Installed and integrated at nodal points of the castle, these generative music works will dialogue with the surrounding environments and accompany visitors through a path that, superimposed on the museum exhibition, will offer a unique synaesthetic listening experience.
Castel Beseno, on the other hand, will be the site of a spectacular large-scale audiovisual installation, 77 Million Paintings for Beseno (Aug. 19 to Sept. 10). Brian Eno has chosen the walls of the famous castle as the “canvas” on which to animate the endless visual combinations of his most famous work. Conceived as “visual music,” 77 Million Paintings is the result of Brian Eno’s constant research into light as an artistic medium and his desire to explore the new aesthetic possibilities generated by technology: superimposing in random order the layers of four hundred paintings made by the artist himself, a software generates seventy-seven million combinations without ever repeating. Synchronized with themoving visual work, an unrepeatable sound carpet will come to life, as no sound will be audible a second time. It is an evocative work that, through the projection of an ever-changing combination of pictures, will create a “painting of light” on the East Walls of Castel Beseno. Every Friday and Saturday, eight evening events will be held to present the work to the public.
