It is called the Brera Ball and it will take place tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 21, from 7:30 p.m., at the courtyard of the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan: it is the grand ball that the museum’s management has organized to celebrate the beginning of summer. The idea, which was announced in January 2016 and was reportedly born out of a discussion between director James M. Bradburne and art critic Philippe Daverio, also calls for the ball to be repeated every summer solstice. The event is by invitation only and will be attended, the statement says, by “important authorities of the city, guests from the world of art and culture, fashion, and design.” The ball will be themed and for this year it will be dedicated to the film La La Land: there will be a performance by fifty dancers from the dance troupe “DanceHaus,” at the end of which guests will also be allowed to dance.
Also as part of the “Brera Ball” there will be a gift of the so-called “Brera Rose,” a piece of jewelry designed by goldsmith Giampiero Bodino, to an important patron and the awarding of the “Smart Awards” by the “Gioia!” newspaper, which collaborated in the realization of the event and will honor personalities distinguished for “innovativeness and creativity.”
“The Ball represents a collaboration between Pinacoteca di Brera and the magazine Gioia! published by Hearst,” says director Bradburne. “Two qualitative, complementary entities with a wide audience choose to pool their creativity and communication skills to create a great new early summer event that celebrates culture, quality and innovation. The collaboration comes as the first step in a partnership that I hope will have a long and exciting future. Ours is indeed a full collaboration in every sense of the word.”
