BOOMing - Contemporary Art Show, an art fair in its second edition, is back, but for now only in virtual mode, January 20-23, 2022 as scheduled. The in-person mode will have to wait until spring 2022. The event in Bologna, scheduled to take place in DumBO’s space, Binario Centrale, confirms its innovative streak by thus returning with atotally virtual edition and postponing the in-presence event by choosing the protection route.

"Once again the cultural sector is being put to the test and Doc Creativity chooses to side with gallery owners and the public, to pursue the path of care and respect for those who have believed in this project. Postponing BOOMing in attendance causes no small amount of pain, but we are confident that our meta-fair will blossom thriving, looking forward to the time when there will not be so many restrictions imposed on the sector," is what Daniela Furlani, chairwoman of Doc Creativity, which has been producing BOOMing Contemporary Art Show since 2020, says.

The virtual mode, a sort of meta-fair, had begun to emerge last year to cope with the closures imposed by the pandemic: however, it intends to be a tool that can maximize the experience and possibilities offered by the art world. “For years there have been questions about the future of the trade fair sector because it had come to a standstill,” explains Simona Gavioli, at the direction of the event. "The meta-fair we think is the answer because it offers a ground that sets no spatial limits where to show unseen content, realize projects that are impossible in the physical world, and allow the perfect coexistence of the vision of the fair curator and the gallerist. BOOMing ’s main mission is to bring out the changes and new media are the avenues that culture uses today. The metaverse for BOOMing is an additional space, vast and immersive digital world, inexorably intertwined with the physical one that our curators will effectively use for the benefit of the audience."

This edition of BOOMing will be a fair in Digital Twin: the spaces will be those, faithfully reproduced, of DumBO ’s central platform thanks to Lieu.City, a social platform for art-related events in virtual reality.

“Each gallerist,” Gavioli explains, “will set up exactly as they would have thought of the real spaces. There will be talks, guided tours, and staff will be there to guide visitors inside the fair. This is for 2022, in the future we are already thinking about how to make the most of the potential offered by the virtual space where only one rule applies: there are no limits.”
