Bologna, at the Grand Hotel Majestic an exhibition for one night dedicated to Giorgio Morandi

With an exhibition lasting just twelve hours, on Saturday, February 4 from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., the Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni” is offering a “One Night Exhibition” dedicated to Giorgio Morandi. The initiative is part of Art City Bologna 2023 as part of ArteFiera.

In the Gallery in the basement, where a Roman road from the imperial era (187 B.C.) stands, two still lifes by Giorgio Morandi belonging to the Cecilia and Giampiero Matteucci Collection, an oil on canvas from 1948 and a watercolor on paper from 1956, will be on display. Next to it will be placed the work created by Riccardo “Corn79” Lanfranco, winner of the first edition of the Giorgio Morandi Sustainability Art Prize. The award is promoted by the Grand Hotel Majestic “già Baglioni,” which through this initiative intends to celebrate the deep connection with Giorgio Morandi and to recall the theme of sustainability. A point of view also shared by the other supporter of the Award, Confedilizia APE Bologna.

The Turin-based Corn79 drew inspiration from an artist residency between Bologna and Grizzana Morandi, through Morandi’s places and objects, such as the iconic bottles, that have become an integral part of his poetic vision.

The event will be opened by a talk by Beatrice Buscaroli: the writer and art historian, a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, will recall the genesis of this appointment and recall a historical fact: the nocturnal blitz exhibition with which, on March 20, 1914, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti provoked the artistic establishment and gave birth to Bolognese futurism. In the basement of the then Baglioni, from dusk to dawn, various works by Pozzati, Licini, Bacchelli, Vespignani and a then unknown Giorgio Morandi were exhibited. More than a century later, Morandi’s footsteps are retraced and his vision is celebrated.

The exhibition will be free admission by reservation, with a free offering to support Fondazione ANT Italia Onlus in the year of its 45th anniversary.
