Big annual gallery event returns to Madrid, open to all for free

Now in its fourteenth year, Apertura Madrid Gallery Weekend, the big annual Madrid event that attracts artists, professionals, collectors and enthusiasts promoted by the Arte Madrid gallery association, is back again this year. Four days in which Arte Madrid galleries will be open to all and free of charge to give the public a chance to visit their exhibitions scattered throughout the city.

More than fifty galleries will participate and a number of national and international artists will be involved with the aim of bringing the general public closer to modern and contemporary art and raising awareness of the Madrid art scene internationally.

It opens with this special event the exhibition season of the galleries after the summer, as always from the second Thursday of September. In recent editions, Apertura has been extended to the entire month of September to offer a full program of activities accessible free of charge to the public, with extended hours: events and guided tours of the galleries, visits to some of the city’s art centers and museums, and tours of public spaces where artworks located in Madrid’s streets, squares and buildings can be discovered and appreciated.

Apertura also organizes a program that aims to develop the contemporary art sector and promote collaboration among art world professionals.

Arte Madrid and Apertura are financed through the contribution of member galleries and through the help, collaboration and sponsorship of both private companies and public administrations.
