Artissima announces dates for 2021. Bonacossa: "We have not given up on experiencing contemporary art."

The 27th edition of Artissima unplugged came to an end. New dates for 2021 announced.

Dates for the next edition of Artissimaannounced: it will be held from Friday, November 5 to Sunday, November 7, 2021, with preview on Thursday, November 4, 2021.

Meanwhile, the 27th edition of Artissima International Contemporary Art, directed for the fourth year by Ilaria Bonacossa, ended on February 12. An edition that took place, due to the pandemic, in an Unplugged version: a new formula, dilated in time and space, that brought together under Stasi Frenetica physical exhibitions, realized with Fondazione Torino Musei, and digital projects, such as Artissima XYZ and the online catalog, focusing on works and galleries.

"The cultural vocation and the institutional soul of the fair pushed Artissima to reinvent itself profoundly in order to continue to be an opportunity for discovery, experimentation and in-depth study of contemporary art even in the year of the global health emergency,“ commented Ilaria Bonacossa. ”We are proud of the work that has confirmed Artissima as a key event in the art system also in its ability to always find new responses to the times. It was a courageous edition, born out of the collaboration with the Fondazione Torino Musei and made possible thanks to the support of the Bodies and Institutions. Heartfelt thanks go to the galleries and historical and new partners who supported us despite the difficulties of the moment. The affection towards Artissima is tangible and we cannot but be honored. The dialogue and the willingness to work together have made it possible to not give up contemporary art in such a difficult year."

Stasi Frenetica brought together the three exhibitions presented in the museum venues of the Fondazione Torino Musei: GAM - Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Palazzo Madama - Museo Civico d’Arte Antica, and MAO Museo d’Arte Orientale, where several works from the Artissima galleries selected for the 2020 edition of the fair were hosted, offering a glimpse of what the public would find in the booths. The exhibitions were attended by 105 galleries, including 55 from Italy and 50 from abroad, 124 artists with a total of 158 works in the three museums; ready to be visited by the public since Nov. 5, 2020, however, they were opened only on Feb. 3 due to government regulations, and in the six days they were open they reached a total of more than 3,000 visitors. However, during the closure, the exhibitions underwent intensive digital work, from 3D virtual tours, created in collaboration with Artland, to Digital Walkie Talkies presented on YouTube and IGTV.

In addition to Stasi Frenetica, the two exhibition projects Folle and JaguArt were on view at GAM: the former, the result of the new partnership between Artissima and Intesa Sanpaolo, presented a selection of evocative photographs of “crowds” from the Intesa Sanpaolo Publifoto Archive taken between 1930 and 1980; the latter is a talent-scouting project born out of the dialogue between Artissima and Jaguar Land Rover Italia, and the group show of the ten winning artists of theItalian Talent Road Show was presented.

ArtissimaXYZ and the online catalog represented the digital section of Artissima Unplugged: Artissima XYZ is an unprecedented cross-media platform that made it possible for visitors to experience the fair remotely through the various sections. Also unveiled on artissima.art was the online catalog, designed to house the galleries, artists, and their works, presenting the works that the galleries selected for the 2020 edition of the fair would bring to the booth in addition to those set up in the Stasi Frenetica exhibitions.
