Arte Fiera returns to Bologna Feb. 7-9, 2025, with an edition that strengthens its role as a point of reference for Italian art, including 20th-century masters and contemporaries. With 204 exhibitors and 176 galleries in pavilions 25 and 26, the fair continues on its path of growth under the artistic direction of Simone Menegoi and the operational direction of Enea Righi. The 2025 edition marks an expansion of the offer, thanks to the entry of new galleries, a programming rich in meetings and important recognitions for the Italian art system.
The heart of the event is the Main Section, which welcomes 129 galleries with an offer ranging from modern and postwar art to contemporary production. Alongside it, four curated and invitation-only sections offer insights into specific expressive languages. Photography and Moving Images, entrusted for the third year to Giangavino Pazzola, explores the relationship between photography and other media, first and foremost video. Multiples, curated by Alberto Salvadori, analyzes serial artistic production, while Pittura XXI, in its fifth edition under the guidance of Davide Ferri, offers a look at contemporary Italian and international painting. Making its debut, on the other hand, Prospettiva, curated by Michele D’Aurizio, presents a section devoted to emerging artists, both those represented by young and established galleries. Another key to the fair is the transversal format Percorso. After the success of previous editions, 2025 will see a focus on the collective dimension of art, summarized in the phrase Community: not ’I,’ but ’we.’ The partnership with Ducati, launched in 2023, is renewed for this edition as well.
Two special projects enrich the 2025 edition. The invitation for the seventh edition of Opus Novum has been extended to Maurizio Nannucci (Florence, 1939), among the most internationally renowned Italian artists. His unpublished work, created especially for Arte Fiera, will be a multiple designed for the occasion.
In parallel, the collaboration with Fondazione Furla continues for a program of live actions curated by Bruna Roccasalva, Artistic Director of the Foundation. A new protagonist of the edition is Adelaide Cioni, who will create a performance conceived especially for the Pavilion de l’Esprit Nouveau, from Feb. 6 to 9.
From Feb. 7 to 9, Arte Fiera hosts the Book Talk program, produced in collaboration with BPER Banca and curated by Guendalina Piselli. The series of meetings explores the relationship between art and publishing through a series of conversations involving about 60 critics, curators, artists and scholars. The aim is to offer the audience an overview of the most interesting recently published Italian titles and emerging issues in the contemporary art debate.
Seven prizes are awarded as part of the fair: the BPER Prize, the Marval Acquisition Award, the Collezione Righi Award, the Officina Arte Ducati Award, the Osvaldo Licini by Fainplast Award, the Rotary Award and The Collectors.Chain Prize by Art Defender.
One of the great novelties is the first edition of the Flash Art Italia Award, a recognition aimed at the entire Italian art system. The award ceremony, which will feature prizes in 14 categories, will take place on February 7 at the Cinema Modernissimo in Bologna.
The gastronomic experience of Arte Fiera is also enriched with an exceptional collaboration. Curating the offer will be Amerigo, a historic restaurant with ninety years in business and a Michelin star since 1998, a symbol of the evolution of Bologna’s culinary tradition.
As per tradition, Arte Fiera will be accompanied by ART CITY, the program of exhibitions and widespread events that animates Bologna Art Week. This year’s special project, The Gates of the City, will explore the relationship between art and urban space. Not to be missed is the ART CITY White Night, the white night of art, scheduled for Saturday, February 8: numerous venues of the ART CITY Bologna circuit, along with galleries, independent spaces and historic buildings, will remain open until midnight to offer the public an immersive experience.
