Kunst Meran Merano Arte presents its annual cultural program for 2025, a journey that, through four main exhibition projects and numerous events, explores the complex relationships between past and present. This initiative reflects the museum’s ongoing commitment to promoting the languages of contemporary art and engaging a diverse audience with a stimulating and multidisciplinary cultural offering.
The program opens with a reflection on the narrative of history, its omissions and the way it influences today’s society. Through exhibitions, art residencies, lectures and meetings, Kunst Meran Merano Arte aims to stimulate a critical dialogue between past and present. The goal is to question established interpretations of history and create new perspectives through art.
The first exhibition is Aerolectics - Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński, from March 16 to June 9, 2025. It is the first solo exhibition in Italy by Austrian artist Belinda Kazeem-Kamiński. The exhibition is part of the three-year program conceived and curated by Lucrezia Cippitelli and Simone Frangi, which under the title The Invention of Europe reflects on the monolithic idea of Europe. The exhibition is an immersive journey into the origins and spread of the European Catholic missionary system in Africa. Through a polyphonic and multimedia narrative, the artist explores the relationship between collective memory and the African diaspora, with a special look at the connections with the South Tyrolean territory.
It continues with Earthly Communities, from June 22 to Oct. 12, 2025: a group exhibition (with works by Juana Bel aka Amazon, Minia Biabiany, Carolina Caycedo, Carolina Cifras, Ismael Condoii, Luigi Coppola, Etienne de France, Alexandra Gelis, Amanda Piña, Mezzenett Quiroga, Sallisa Rosa and others) that investigates the relationship between Europe and Abya Yala, the Americas seen from a decolonial perspective. Also part of The Invention of Europe, the exhibition addresses ecological, economic and geopolitical issues, offering works that dialogue with the South Tyrolean context. The works, also created through art residencies, will be exhibited both in museum spaces and in unusual places, such as forests and public spaces.
Then it is the turn of Franz Wanner, from October 25, 2025 to January/February 2026. The first Italian solo exhibition of German artist Franz Wanner, curated by Kristina Kreutzwald and Martina Oberprantacher, explores the connections between the war industry, forced labor during National Socialism and their contemporary repercussions. It is a project deeply rooted in the South Tyrolean context, highlighting stories that are often forgotten. For this exhibition, Wanner conducted several researches on the South Tyrolean context and the use of workers during the period of the “Pre-Alps Zone of Operations,” that is, when the Province of Bolzano was annexed by Nazi Germany.
Finally, the group exhibition AlpiTypes, from October 25, 2025 to January/February 2026, curated by Antonino Benincasa, Massimo Martignoni and Anna Zinelli, focuses on applied graphics developed in the territory of South Tyrol, Tyrol and Trentino in the first half of the 20th century. Through extensive research, students from the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano accompanied by Antonino Benincasa reinterpret historical typefaces, revealing the influence of movements such as the Bauhaus and the Wiener Secession.
Prior to the start of the new programming, the museum is hosting until Feb. 16, 2025 the exhibition Recent Architectures in South Tyrol 2018-2024 curated by Filippo Bricolo, a project of Kunst Meran Merano Arte, Südtiroler Künstlerbund, and Fondazione Architettura Alto Adige that celebrates local architectural identity through a selection of projects curated by an international jury. The exhibition is enhanced by guided tours, urban excursions and meetings with the architects involved, offering the public a unique opportunity to explore the evolutions of South Tyrolean architectural design.
Through a cultural offering that embraces different disciplines and perspectives, Kunst Meran Merano Arte invites the public to reflect on the challenges of our time and the stories that have brought us this far. The four main exhibitions, enhanced by collateral activities and collaborations with local and international institutions, promise an interesting cultural experience for all visitors.
The 2025 cultural program also includes a wealth of educational and art mediation activities for all ages. Aiming to promote civic and cultural education through art, the museum offers hands-on workshops, guided tours, and thematic meetings that address topical issues. Special attention is paid to education for schools of all levels, with paths designed to sharpen participants’ view of history, society and culture.
