ART VIEW Festival: in Cascina in concert Teresa Salgueiro, among the greatest artists of Portuguese music

In Cascina, La Città del Teatro presents on Sunday, May 12 at 9 p.m. the concert "Canti naviganti" by Teresa Salgueiro, among the greatest artists of Portuguese music. The event is part of the program of the ART VIEW 2024 Festival "Women in Art" (May 11-19).

On the occasion of the Festival Art view 2024 “Women in Art” to be held at the City of Theater in Cascina (Pisa) from Saturday, May 11 to Sunday, May 19, a concert by Teresa Salgueiro accompanied by the Solis String Quartet and percussionist Rui Lobato is scheduled for Sunday, May 12 at 9 p.m. at the same venue. Teresa Salgueiro is one of the greatest artists in Portuguese music, a former member and founder of Madredeus and for the past fifteen years a solo singer, whose talent has enabled her to collaborate with personalities belonging to the most diverse artistic expressions, from Caetano Veloso to Coba, from Patrick Watson to José Carreras, from Mário Lúcio to Carlos Paredes, to Lucio Dalla. She was also an actress in the film Lisbon Story by Wim Wenders, and principal soloist in the orchestra of Zbigniew Preisner’s “Silence, Night and Dreams” (author of the soundtracks for Krzysztof Kieslowski’s films).

His exclusive project Canti naviganti (only two dates in Italy) combines Neapolitan and Portuguese songs to narrate and reaffirm the importance that song and popular cultures have in the world. Born from the encounter between Teresa Salgueiro and the Solis String Quartet, it is a show that aims to celebrate life through the centuries, from the 16th to the 20th century, reviewing popular songs and immortal melodies. Extraordinary composers such as E.A. Mario’s Canzone Appassiunata and David Mourão-Ferreira’s Barco Negro, a legendary fado composed by Brazilian composers and brought to success by Amalia Rodriguez, are sung; then the flair of Renato Carosone is recounted and there is a dialogue and fusion with fado classics. It continues with some original compositions by the Solis String Quartet and Teresa Salgueiro born from their meeting and an important part in the structure of the show.

Canti Naviganti is thus meant to be a tribute to culture and the people who generated it, while maintaining a wise lightness. A concert not to be missed for all music lovers.

The Solis String Quartet that will accompany Teresa Salgueiro in the evening, along with Rui Lobato on percussion, is made up of four composers and arrangers: Vincenzo Di Donna (Violin), Gerardo Morrone (Viola), Luigi De Maio (Violin), and Antonio Di Francia (Cello). Since their beginnings, their artistic proposal is marked by a skillful originality capable of mixing jazz, world music, pop and contemporary music, leading them to collaborate with illustrious names on the international scene. These include Dulce Pontes, Andrea Vollenweider, Pat Metheney, Richard Galliano, Jimmy Cliff, Maria Joao, Omar Sosa, Hevia and Noa. As well as collaborations with Italian music stars such as Claudio Baglioni, Ligabue, Gianna Nannini, Negramaro, Elisa, Adriano Celentano, Eugenio Finardi, Edoardo Bennato, Daniele Silvestri, and Ornella Vanoni, to name a few.

The concert will be hosted as part of the program of the ART VIEW 2024 Festival “Women in Art” (May 11-19), organized by Fondazione Sipario Toscana and supported by Fondazione Pisa, an international festival dedicated to women artists whose lives and works have transformed the role of women within art history.
