Art as a vehicle of Italian-ness. Dante Society launches first webinar on the topic

On the occasion of the 20th edition of Italian Language Week in the world, dedicated to the theme Italian between word and image: graffiti, illustrations, comics, the Dante Alighieri Society presents a reflection on the potential of the relationship between language and art for the global promotion of Italy.

On Monday, October 19, from 3 to 4 p.m., with mandatory registration on the Loescher platform, the first webinar of a cycle promoted by Dante onart as a vehicle of Italian-ness will be held. The webinar In viaggio con l’arte will feature Dante Secretary Alessandro Masi, Prof. Marco Mezzadri of the University of Parma and Prof. Francesca Cappelletti, director of the Galleria Borghese in Rome.

This is the first in a series of seminars designed specifically for the Dante network and those promoting Italy on a global scale. "With the new cycle of webinars The Words of Art,“ stressed Professor Masi, ”the Dante will offer tools and answers formulated for the specific needs of those who promote Italian language and culture in the different areas of the world, each of which will be involved at times and with formats that will facilitate the adherence of those interested, also highlighting the potential of Italy’s artistic heritage as a vehicle for learning quality Italian, a lever of multicultural dialogue and a tool for soft power."

The initiative is linked to the publication of the new book by Alessandro Masi, Chiara Barbato and Gaia Chiuchiù, In viaggio con l’arte, published by Loescher: through ten illustrated stories, the volume tells the stories of ten characters from different parts of the planet grappling with Italy and its language. The episodes are set in Italian art cities and evoke ten specific aspects of the art world: the museum, the artist’s tools and techniques, iconography and iconology, restoration, the art market, contemporary art, architecture and urbanism, archaeology, and Christian architecture. Chapters refer to the keywords of the Italian of art with a selection of 200 in-depth headwords with tabs and a rich exercise section.
