Art and Culture Dialogues return to the Uffizi Galleries

At the Uffizi Galleries the free conferences Dialogues of Art and Culture return from January to June: in fact, starting January 9, 2019, at 5 p.m., the new season of meetings, nineteen in all, will kick off in theVasari Auditorium.

The lectures will have five topics: Treasures from the Depots (inspired by a work on display and present in the room for the occasion), Universal Laboratory (an original and novel approach to the art world will be entrusted to scholars from other disciplines), Behind the Scenes (which will address issues related to exhibition and museological strategies), Masterpieces on Paper (lectures that will examine some of the masterpieces conserved in the Prints and Drawings Cabinet of the Galleries, exceptionally displayed to the public in conjunction with the event), and What’s New at the Galleries (new restorations, acquisitions, gifts, research results).

The director of the Uffizi Galleries, Eike Schmidt, said, “With this new series of lectures, entrusted to distinguished scholars from both Italy and abroad, the Uffizi Galleries intends to reaffirm the central role that education and the dissemination of knowledge play in the cultural policy of this museum.”

Fabrizio Paolucci, curator of classical art and coordinator of the scientific initiatives of the Uffizi Galleries, added, “This new cycle reiterates the formula successfully tested in the past months. In this series of meetings, which will run for six months, a wide variety of topics will be addressed, ranging from collecting antiquities, anthropology, art, paleopathology, museography and the history of theeconomy, offering a sampling of themes and a variety of eras covered that will not fail to interest the now increasingly large audience that faithfully follows our initiative.”
