Archive never seen: at the Zeffirelli Foundation unpublished testimonies and sketches of Puccini's Bohème

Thursday, March 7, 2019 will be the second appointment with Archive Never Seen: the meeting will be devoted to Giacomo Puccini's Bohème.

OnThursday, March 7, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. (meet at 5:15 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., respectively, in front of the box office), appointment with the second meeting of 2019 of Archive Never Seen, a journey to discover the heritage of notes and memories that Franco Zeffirelli donated to the city of Florence. The second appointment is dedicated to La Bohème: the famous opera by Giacomo Puccini was first performed at the Teatro Regio in Turin in 1896 with Arturo Toscanini conducting.

The tour, curated by Caterina d’Amico, will begin with a visit to the rooms dedicated to the opera and, after a brief introduction in which Zeffirelli and the Bohème will be introduced, will end with an exclusive visit to the maestro’spersonal archive: unpublished sketches and sketches made in preparation for the various productions of the opera.

Franco Zeffirelli was very fascinated by the story of Mimì in mid-nineteenth-century Bohemian France, which is why he directed Bohème several times during his career: in 1963 at La Scala with Mirella Freni and Gianni Raimondi; in 1981 at the Metropolitan in New York with Teresa Stratas and José Carreras under the baton of James Levine; and at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome in 1992 with Mirella Freni and Francisco Araiza.

Participation in the tour costs 10 euros and reservations for the event are required; you can write to ticket@fondazionefrancozeffirelli.com or call (10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday) at 055.2658435.
