May 13 sees the return of Appia Day, the day promoted by Legambiente and Touring Club Italiano, in collaboration with the Appia Antica Archaeological Park, the Appia Antica Regional Park and the Pontifical Commission of Sacred Archaeology and under the patronage of the Municipality of Rome.
Now in its third edition, Appia Day will feature 200 events, including extraordinary and free openings of monuments, walks, treks, cyclotours, music and performances, guided tours and workshops.
Visitors will be able to both walk and bike along the Roman stretch of the consular road, built in 312 B.C., the heart of Appia Day to participate in the more than 150 events scheduled with extraordinary openings and free admission to archaeological sites, monuments and public museums that line the Appian Way.

There will be guided tours from San Giovanni in Oleo, to the former Cartiera Latina and again to the Museum of the Walls or the Mausoleum of Priscilla and Cecilia Metella; exceptional storytellers such as writer Roberto Carvelli who will hold itinerant history lectures or with anthropologist Giorgio Fabretti who will curate the walkabout "Arcadia Felix vero Cava Fabretti, " the sanpietrini factory. The day will also include theatrical and historical re-enactment performances, workshops (such as that of basketry and scriptorium sublacense), tastings with Slow Food products to discover the varied biodiversity, including agricultural, of the rich territory that the Appian Way crosses, the Roman Agro, which makes Rome the first agricultural municipality inEurope. There will also be children’s initiatives, photo exhibitions (such as the one on the rediscovery of the Roman colonization of the central Apennines, or on the cartographic reconstruction made in the 1800s by archaeologist Luigi Canina) and excursions.



Lots of music will also be on the program: from the Testaccio Traditional Music Orchestra to the Aurelian Women’s Chorale, Floreos Cho ir and Academia Alma Vox Choir; also the Choirs of the Musikè school ; the Great Choir of Rome with an a cappella concert directed by maestro Fabrizio Adriano Neri or the Rome Savoyards Barber Shop Quartet.

Appia Day also for four-legged friends with the walk “Dogs at liberty: 6-legged solidarity walk” promoted by Almo Nature, Fondazione Capellino and Legambiente and designed to raise awareness of the need for concrete solutions to eradicate stray animals. Meet at 3 p.m. at Caffarella Park(Largo Tacchi Venturi). Participation is by free offer. Funds raised will be used to help the Muratella kennel.
