From June 25 to Aug. 11, 2018, every evening for a total of 48 evenings, the new edition of"Apriti Cinema," thesummer film arena that is part of theFlorentine Summer program ofthe City of Florence, will take place in the Uffizi square.
The initiative is proposed in collaboration with the Uffizi Galleries and is curated by Fondazione Sistema Toscana in collaboration with Quelli dell’Alfieri.
The film evenings will begin at 9:30 p. m. and will have free admission.
The review involves twelve international festivals that will offer viewers mini-reviews: among them,"Midsummer Nights" proposed by Lo Schermo dell’Arte Film Festival on Monday evenings,"Middle East Now is colored" collects films from the Middle East on Tuesdays, and on Wednesdays the Festival dei Popoli with the"Notti doc" review will entertain with music documentaries. Thursdays will be devoted to films from the Fiesole Prize to the Masters of Cinema, while the"Stars and the Museum" review will be dedicated to the enhancement of the historical-artistic heritage kept in major international museum venues.
Uffizi Galleries Director Eike Schmidt said, “It is with great pleasure that the Uffizi Galleries welcomes, in that space shared with the city and its citizens, which is the Vasarian loggia, the Summer 2018 ’Apriti Cinema’ review. The performing arts have been in the genetic code of the Uffizi since its founding, and they are flourishing again today with the Cinema Summer as well as with the ’Uffizi Live’ events in the Tuesday evening openings. The rich program of the film festival this year includes a series of screenings dedicated to the relationship between art and cinema, a perfect theme for the scenic space that hosts it. The closing of the festival will then be dedicated to a theme that is particularly dear to us: the Liberation and the passage of the front from Florence, with particular attention to the ”Night of the Bridges,“ August 4, 1944, from whose tragic epilogue arose a moment of great city and national pride, the reconstruction of the Ponte Santa Trinita.”
