On Wednesday, Sept. 25, as part of Firenze Suona Contemporanea 2019, the national premiere of The Guided Tour Of The Exhibition For Soprano And Handbag, by William Kentridge (Johannesburg, 1955), a work for soprano, video, sculpture and the voice of the artist himself, performed by Joanna Dudley, his longtime collaborator, will be hosted at the Tepidarium of the Roster.
The work has already been presented in numerous art galleries, museums and theaters, including the Whitechapel Gallery in London, the Print Room (Coronet Theater) in London, the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris and the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, and now it will be offered in Italy, in the Tuscan capital, in two performances, at 8:30 and 10 p.m.
Through this work between concert and installation, the artist intends to reject the musealization of the work of art.
William Kentridge has just been named the winner for the painting section of the prestigious Praemium Imperiale 2019.
