A lecture series to learn about Genoa in the Golden Age, 1528 to 1684

A lecture series starts in Genoa to learn about the city during the Golden Age, 1528 to 1684.

An interesting series of lectures is about to kick off in Genoa to learn about the history of the city in the “golden century,” from 1528, the year of the expulsion of the French and Andrea Doria’s government reform, to 1684, the year of the bombardment of the Sun King’s fleet on the city. The lectures, given by established and emerging scholars, will discuss economics, art, history and various topics related to what was the “golden century” of the Republic of Genoa. “Not a sequence of information related to a view of the city’s development from a single point of view,” the presentation reads, “but a many-sided reflection, capable of restoring the complexity, charm and strength of what is not hesitant to call the ’golden century’ of the Genoese.” The organization is entrusted to the nonprofit GenovApiedi, which has already carried out hundreds of initiatives, including conferences and fundraising for restorations, to safeguard Genoa’s historical and artistic heritage since 2012, when it was established.

The meetings, which will be held every Tuesday (except for the penultimate meeting, which will be on Wednesday), at 5 p.m. at the Genoa headquarters of Alliance Française (at 20 Via Garibaldi, in the context of the splendid palaces of Strada Nuova), will begin on January 23 and conclude on March 20, with the following program:
