On Oct. 23 at 6 p.m., STRADIVARIfestival will feature the debut performance of one of the world’s most famous and acclaimed violinists, American Joshua Bell, who in a duo with pianist Peter Dugan will play historic nineteenth- and twentieth-century pieces such as Beethoven’s Sonata No. 2 in A major, Robert Schumann’s D minor Grosse Sonata and Claude Debussy’s Sonata No. 3 in G minor. Not to be outdone is Teatro Amilcare Ponchielli’s program: the new season, which includes the last opera title in January 2023, has been titled The Theater, The Future and features performances of opera, dance, music and theater. Five popular opera titles, including Amilcare Ponchielli’s La Gioconda, absent from this stage for nearly 30 years. Teatro Ponchielli pays tribute to the composer after whom it is named, offering a title absent from the city stage since 1996. La Gioconda is the Ponchielli opera always awaited by melomaniacs as a special event. Arrigo Boito’s libretto based on Victor Hugo’s drama Angelo tyran de Padoue presents a dark and mysterious Venice, the scene of passionate and criminal excesses, perfectly mirrored by the composer’s generous and captivating melodic vein. A historical fresco with a scapigliata imprint that calls for six leading performers, one for each vocal register. It is conducted by Giampaolo Bisanti, while sets and direction bear the refined signature of Filippo Tonon. Five appointments of Dance, with the precious opening with NDT II, Nederlands Dans Theater, among the world’s most famous contemporary dance companies, and a proposal of Italian choreographers among the most powerful and innovative: Jacopo Jenna, Cristiana Morganti and Damiano Bigi with Lukazs Przytarsky, dancers of Dimitri Papaioannou’s company.
Completing the billboard are Music and Theater, with four appointments, in anticipation of Billboard 2023.

From Oct. 26, 2022 to Jan. 29, 2023, the exhibition Giuseppe Mainardi (1922-2010) can also be visited at the “Ala Ponzone” Civic Museum in Cremona. Educator, philologist, collector: the museum will set up on the occasion of the donation received an exhibition space with the donated works to offer at the same time a portrait of the figure of Giuseppe Mainardi not only as a collector but also as an educator and philologist. The donation includes paintings, drawings and some memoirs by Alfeo Argentieri, a family friend, that Mainardi kept in his house on Via Buoso da Dovara, most of which were acquired over the years during exhibitions or in specialized galleries. To these works will be added archival material from the Cremona State Archives documenting the pedagogical thinking of Mainardi, who was a longtime teacher at the Virgilio Middle Schools and at the Liceo Aselli, and the results of his philological research carried out in the context of early Cremonese Humanism.
