The 2020 edition of Milano Arch Week, the week dedicated to architecture that this year takes place May 13-17, is digital. In addition, on Saturday, May 16, the Milano Arch Week Marathon event will take place on the Milano Arch Week and Triennale Milano Facebook pages and the Triennale Milano YouTube channel.
During the morning, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., theUrban Center will inaugurate its public program with an open discussion between the City and the groups selected by the Urban Factor call for proposals from the Milan 2020 adaptation strategy. In the afternoon, between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., there will be a Marathon involving some of the great international architects who have worked in Milan, along with architects and urban planners from the Milan Polytechnic who will reveal some hidden treasures of Milan’s postwar architecture.
The Milan Arch Week Marathon will feature the following speakers: Petra Blaisse (Library of Trees Park); Peter Eisenman (Carlo Erba Residences); Bjarke Ingels (the new CityLife, currently under design); Rem Koolhaas (Prada Foundation); Daniel Libeskind (CityLife); Patrik Schumacher - Zaha Hadid Architects (City Life); Kazuyo Sejima - SANAA (Bocconi Campus). These architects will talk about their relationship with Milan and the project they have realized here, as well as provide insights and reflections to imagine and design the Milan of the future, after this profound trauma.
Designers and studios selected for the Urban Center’s public program will also be involved, in coordination with theMilan City Council’s Department of Urban Planning, Green and Agriculture and with the participation of Councillor Pierfrancesco Maran and Lorenza Baroncelli, Artistic Director of Triennale Milano. Divided into thematic tables, they will present their research highlighting the contribution they can make with respect to the challenges that Milan will face in the medium to long term.
There will also be a series of speeches, coordinated by Ilaria Valente, dean of the School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering, which will cover the Milan of postwar reconstruction and will involve Politecnico di Milano faculty members Giulio M. Barazzetta, Orsina Simona Pierini, Luigi Spinelli, Cino Zucchi and photographer Giovanni Hänninen.
During the marathon, the G. Feltrinelli Foundation will give voice to some citymakers active in Milan’s neighborhoods: realities and individuals engaged in projects that regenerate places, care for the social fabric and build or “re-build” the city.
