One of Italy’s most famous chefs, Alessandro Borghese, has decided to turn his restaurant into an art gallery. It happens at the restaurant AB - The Luxury of Simplicity, located in the historic Palazzo Vendramin Calergi in Venice. Starting September 8, in fact, diners who decide to sit at the table of the well-known TV chef and enjoy his dishes (prices not for all budgets: first courses are around 30 euros, second courses around 40, desserts 18, with the possibility of two tasting menus of 115 and 140 euros, the first of 5 courses and the second of 7), will be able to do so while observing the artworks of Michelangelo Galliani (Montecchio Emilia, 1975), present with the exhibition Lassù, organized in collaboration between Tabor Art, Mc2gallery and Cris Contini Contemporary, and curated by Vincenzo Maccarone.
The Emilian artist’s sculptures can be seen both in the garden overlooking the Grand Canal and in the interior rooms. Galliani’s research focuses on two fundamental themes: the anatomy of the human body and symbolism. Marble is the central element, and on it the artist works manually and viscerally, combining it on several occasions with metals-lead, iron, and steel-and sometimes inserting sacred elements. The technique used in most of the sculptures is that of the “unfinished,” personalized by the artist through the assemblage of materials, in a dialogue between past, present and future, between figuration and concept. The works are in perfect harmony with the restaurant’s refined garden and convey a sense of completeness. The main work in the exhibition is Vertigo, already featured in the solo exhibition hosted in Michelangelo Buonarroti’s birthplace in 2021.
The intent is to offer a parallelism between cuisine and art, not really on content, with the idea that the talent and dedication with which chef Borghese and sculptor Galliani work their ingredients with a common goal: “to evoke memories and arouse emotions and reflections in those who will have the pleasure of spending an evening at AB - The Luxury of Simplicity in Venice, satisfying sight and taste,” as they make known in a note.
