Pistoletto's Third Paradise arrives in Courmayeur. And it will remain for at least 15 years

On Sunday, July 31, 2022, Michelangelo Pistoletto's new Third Paradise will be presented to the public in the presence of the artist in Courmayeur, at the foot of Mont Blanc.

In Courmayeur, in the heart of Val Ferret, Michelangelo Pistoletto has found a new “home” for his Third Paradise, a symbol of his poetics, a formula for creativity andharmony.

Designed for a stay of at least 15 years, the installation, which will be presented to the public on Sunday, July 31 at 11 a.m. in the presence of the artist, will become one of the Third Paradise Embassies. Pistoletto has traced the Third Paradise, a reconfiguration of the mathematical sign of infinity, at the foot of Mont Blanc, in one of the most striking valleys in the Alps.

The work, 54 meters wide, has been placed between the green and the movement of the ground, in delicate balance: an approach focused on reuse was adopted for its realization, employing fir tree trunks already cut and present in the area, alternating on some stumps with mirrored steel discs. In this context, the installation emphasizes the connection between heaven and earth. It is a powerful symbol of peace and regeneration: the two outer circles represent all diversity and antinomies, such as that between nature and artifice, while the central one is the interpenetration between the two extremes, and represents the generative womb of the new humanity.
