On the occasion of Effetto Venezia, Livorno’s Quartiere la Venezia will host the exhibition The Game of Nature, curated by Gaia Bindi, from August 3 to 7, 2022. Sixteen works of art, including installations and videos, created by twenty-one emerging artists will be on view. The exhibition, like the event, is promoted by the City of Livorno and organized by Fondazione LEM - Livorno Euro Mediterranea, under the patronage of the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. The installation is curated by Alessandro Scilipoti.
The exhibition unfolds in a walking itinerary through the streets of Livorno’s famous neighborhood. The public will be invited to follow a route inspired by the Game of the Goose, proposed in an ecological key. Indeed, the theme is Nature in its elements, and the route in stages is intended to raise environmental awareness. Each stage playfully presents a topic related to the ecosystem, which today calls for greater attention and new awareness.
At each station of the game there will be a sign that poses a simple question that the visitor is invited to answer by looking at the artwork placed next to it, reflecting on the image it proposes and sometimes interacting with it. On the same sign, under the number identifying the stage of the game and the corresponding question, the name of the author of the work, the title (with technique and measurements) and a brief critical text will appear. To complete the entire journey, the visitor-player will be guided on his or her way by visual signs and a brochure, distributed free of charge, which will serve as a geo-conceptual map to follow the exhibition route. The contents of the brochure will also be made available to the public via QRcode for viewing on their smartphones.
The artists involved are Nico Angiuli, Margherita Bertoli, Benedetta Chiari and Elisa Pietracito, Mohammad Fallah, Pamela Gori and Eva Sauer, Giulia Guidicelli and Federica Vaia, Rocco Lopardo and Giovanni Marino, Jasmine Morandini, Pengpeng Wang, Robert Pettena, Qiu Yi, Marco Signorini, Simoncini.Tangi, Zoya Shookohi, Marta Travaini, and Zhang Yun.
In accordance with the purpose of the exhibition, all works and installation will be made of natural, recyclable or biodegradable materials. When the exhibition is over, a video of the exhibition event will be produced and a printed catalog will be published, which will feature photographs of the works installed in the urban context, the institutional texts of the entities involved and those included in the brochure, with an introductory critical essay by the curator of the exhibition.
From August 3 to 7, there will be a variety of artistic offerings in this edition of Effetto Venezia: theatrical and musical performances will be held on the stages of Piazza del Luogo Pio - at the center of the Venice - and the Fortezza Nuova; there will be street art performances in the streets, squares and bridges of the district, while the exhibition The Game of Nature will take visitors in and out of some of the most beautiful places in Venice.
