American artist Judy Chicago has unveiled her first virtual artwork Rainbow AR: In keeping with her famous Atmosphere series, which the artist has been making since 1968, Chicago invites audiences around the world to virtually admire her new Smoke Sculptures, augmented reality smoke sculptures. The new project was created in collaboration with the Berlin-based foundation LAS - Light Art Space.
His colorful smoke sculptures are meant to transform and soften the landscape, and now, through augmented reality, everyone can, wherever they are, catapult themselves into these... artistic... clouds. “In this time of uncertainty where people are forced to stay within certain boundaries and their relationship with public space is changing, I felt it was important to offer the opportunity to flood our environments with light, art and beauty to inspire hope and, through a visual metaphor, suggest the possibility of positive change,” said the artist.
Chicago offers the unique experience of interacting with smoke, stimulating the viewer, and for this he has taken care of every detail, from sets to colors to sequences. All is accompanied by a polyphonic track, composed in collaboration with sound designer Colin Bailey.
