Italy's greatest artists sign postcards for Treccani. Here's how to receive them

Who among us has never sent a postcard during a summer vacation? The most beautiful and romantic holiday tradition now lives again in virtual format thanks to a TreccaniArte project simply called Postcards, which will live from 00:01 a.m. Saturday, August 1 to 11:59 p.m. Monday, August 31, 2020. It is a project of artist postcards: many of Italy’s greatest contemporary artists (including, in alphabetical order, Giorgio Andreotta Calò, Massimo Bartolini, Gianfranco Baruchello, Elisabetta Benassi, Enzo Cucchi, Emilio Isgrò, Maurizio Nannucci, Diego Perrone, Marinella Senatore, Gian Maria Tosatti) will sign a different postcard each day that will be delivered to all subscribers to the Treccani Arte newsletter (one can subscribe at https://treccaniarte. com/newsletter/).

The Postcards may be text, drawings, photographic shots, and of course none of the subscribers knows what they will receive or when they will receive it. The project is inspired by the historic practice of Mail Art, based on the sending of message-works through the postal service, and also draws on the tradition of postcards, the ones we used to receive in our mailboxes at one time, especially in summer.

Treccani Arte thus wants to revive that feeling of excitement and surpriserelated to the unexpected arrival of a special message: it will be the artists who will determine in total autonomy the content of their message, and also the date and time when it should be delivered to newsletter subscribers.
