Fondazione CRT acquires twelve new works for Castello di Rivoli and GAM Torino at Artissima

The Fondazione per l'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT purchased twelve new works at Artissima to add to the permanent collection of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d'Arte Contemporanea and the permanent collection of GAM - Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino.

The Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT has expanded its collection once again this year by acquiring twelve new works during the 2023 edition of Artissima to be allocated to the permanent collection of the Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and the permanent collection of GAM - Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino. Thus, works by Steffani Jemison, Marwa Arsanios and Cemile Sahin enter the collection of the Castello di Rivoli, while works by Lorenza Boisi, Francesco Cavaliere and Alessandro Pessoli will be placed in the rooms of the GAM in Turin.

For more than two decades, Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT has been one of the main partners of the international fair Artissima, which it supports through different contributions, the most relevant referring to the acquisitions campaign. For this 2023 edition, the Foundation has decided to increase the historic fund earmarked for acquisitions to 200,000 euros, invested in the purchase of works with a commercial value of 281,200 euros.

“On the occasion of the 30th year of Artissima, the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT confirms its support, increasing to 200,000 euros the budget earmarked for acquisitions at the fair,” said Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, president of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT. “The works purchased this year were chosen through a careful selection process, carried out by the Foundation’s new Scientific Committee, in synergy with the directors and chief curators of Castello di Rivoli and GAM. The works are destined for the two museums in order to enrich their collections in coherence with their respective strategies and programming.”

Present at Artissima for the first time is the new Scientific Committee of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT: Hans Ulrich Obrist (Artistic Director Serpentine Galleries, London), Susanne Pfeffer (Director Museum MMK für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt), Suhanya Raffel (Director Museum M Plus, Hong Kong), Manuel Segade Lodeiro (Director Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid) and Vicente Todolì (Artistic Director Fondazione Pirelli Hangarbicocca, Milan).

The Committee participated in the selection of the acquisitions at the fair, in synergy with the directors and chief curators of Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea and GAM - Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, and selecting works that will enhance the artistic heritage of both museums. On the acquisitions, the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT said, “The new Scientific Committee of the Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT met for the first time in Turin on the occasion of the Artissima International Fair. We are happy to be able to work with the Board of Directors of Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT and the new Directors of Castello di Rivoli (Francesco Manacorda) and GAM - Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Torino (Chiara Bertola). We are committed as of now, and over the coming years, to help define a new trajectory for the CRT collection, so that the artworks it contains can reflect the diversity and inclusion of our time.”
