A paradise in bloom: Felice Limosani's installation in Florence to be discovered with the senses

From June 12 to November 12, 2023, the museum spaces of Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica in Santa Maria Novella will be the scene of 'Blooming in Paradise,' an installation by Felice Limosani conceived as a paradisiacal environment in constant bloom to be traversed with one's senses.

An experience meant to excite and arouse amazement: it is Blooming in Paradise, the experiential artwork by Felice Limosani, from June 12 to November 12, 2023 envelops the spaces of Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica in Santa Maria Novella, Florence, with an atmosphere of great visual, aural and olfactory impact between perception, sensoriality and beauty. Felice Limosani has created on commission from the Florentine maison Blooming in Paradise, an installation conceived as a paradisiacal environment in constant bloom to be traversed with one’s senses. The audience will be completely immersed in the enchantment of light, evoked by an evocative soundtrack and pervaded by a suspended fragrance.

Limosani, a leading figure in the cultural milieu of the Digital Humanities, works with the idea of integrating humanities and digital culture. His works, acquired by the Harvard Digital Collection, are internationally recognized for an artistic language that places emphasis on perception, contemplation and the emotional experience of those who experience them. A vision that, in other times and with other languages, was already of the Medici, just as it was of Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella.

Building on this tangible affinity, the experience will be available free of charge to visitors. An artistic project that is part of the program to enhance the typically Florentine botanical and floral raw materials that the Maison has recently interpreted with its new Eau de Parfum collection "I Giardini Medicei."

Blooming in Paradise artistically interprets the legacy of Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, which has represented an unparalleled cultural heritage for more than 800 years, combining the art of perfumery and botany with the contemporary nature of experiential art.

“The idea,” says the artist, “stems from the title, which evokes a sense of blooming in a sublime dimension. To bloom does not only mean to blossom, but in a figurative sense, it represents regeneration, growth, renewal. A visual metaphor that does not refer to a theological or spiritual paradise but to a heavenly, harmonious, idyllic dimension. The combination of the two concepts symbolically refers to the magnificence of nature, to our role in caring for and preserving it, to the unbreakable bond that unites humanity with the flower kingdom without which biodiversity and life would be compromised.”
