Tonight with Caravaggio: unedited episode by Alberto Angela on the life and works of the great artist

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020 in prime time on Rai1 Alberto Angela will lead the unreleased episode Tonight with Caravaggio.

On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, in prime time on Rai1, Alberto Angela will recount the life and works of one of the greatest, most beloved and controversial painters in art history-Michelangelo Merisi. Tonight with Caravaggio will be a true pilgrimage to discover his art, from Milan to Rome, passing through Ladispoli, a town that for some time now has been claiming Merisi’s disappearance contrary to what is known, which allegedly occurred on July 18, 1610 in Porto Ercole.

The unreleased episode will therefore take viewers to different cities, despite the difficulties due to the health emergency.

In an interview with TV Sorrisi e Canzoni, Alberto Angela reveals that the program in this period of limitations for the pandemic has been among the hardest hit, because we usually travel a lot. "But fortunately I have a team with exceptional flexibility: if we could no longer travel the world, we recreated it in our studio. We built a giant virtual set that will allow me to walk inside Caravaggio’s paintings as if I were in the streets of a city," said the host and popularizer.

During the program, some scenes from the 2008 miniseries in which Caravaggio was played by Alessio Boni will be re-enacted, and the guest will be the director of photography of that set, Oscar winner Vittorio Storaro, who will talk about how Merisi’s works have greatly influenced big names in cinema.
