A documentary on the great sculptor Alberto Giacometti according to actor and director Stanley Tucci premieres Thursday on Sky Arte.

Airing in its TV premiere on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 9:15 p.m., on Sky Arte (Sky’s 120 and 400), is the documentary Alberto Giacometti by Stanley Tucci: the great Italian-born American actor and director reveals why the Swiss sculptor Alberto Giacometti (Borgonovo, 1901 - Chur, 1966) is for him one of the most honest and inquiring minds that ever lived.

Stanley Tucci has always been obsessed with Alberto Giacometti: raised in New York with an art teacher father, Tucci from a young age loved Giacometti’s work and his exploration of the human condition. After directing a biopic(Final Portrait, starring Geoffrey Rush as Giacometti), the documentary Alberto Giacometti by Stanley Tucci airing in first view on Sky Arte, further delves into his research on the artist, continuing as far as he can on his journey of discovery.

Stanley meets with profound connoisseurs of Giacometti’s work, including sculptor Antony Gormley, Tate Gallery director Frances Morris, and Adrien Maeght; interviews friends and acquaintances who have posed for him; gathers details of his troubled love life; enters his Paris studio at 46 RueHippolyte Maindron (now a private home), to learn more about a troubled man who knew fame but lived far from luxury and despised money, concentrating in his artistic pursuit.

The documentary is directed by Elizabeth Dobson, produced by Caroline Marsden, and produced by Neil Crombie and Joe Evans.
