Rai 5 airs documentary on Raphael's Vatican Rooms with Antonio Paolucci

A documentary on Raphael's Vatican Stanze Vaticane airs on Rai5 for the first time on Friday, March 26, at 9:15 p.m. A guide for the occasion is Professor Antonio Paolucci.

Also renewed this Friday, March 26, is the appointment with Art Night, Rai 5’s art container, a program Silvia De Felice and by Massimo Favia and Marta Santella, directed by Andrea Montemaggiori. At 9:15 p.m. this Friday, a rich tribute to Raphael, with two documentaries: one is dedicated to the entire career of Raphael Sanzio (Urbino, 1483 - Rome, 1520), and the other is a documentary on the Vatican Rooms, with Antonio Paolucci, who serves as guide for the occasion.

An evening, then, dedicated to one of the greatest artists of the Renaissance and of world art history, which will also benefit from an introduction by Gabriele Finaldi, director of the National Gallery in London. The evening opens with the documentary Raphael. Myth and Modernity, which reconstructs, with scholars and experts, the figure and career of the artist who was not only a painter and architect, but also an intellectual capable of interpreting the project of an entire society. In particular, the documentary traces what is considered the “golden period,” the Roman years from the pontificate of Julius II to the death of Leo X in 1521.

Next, Art Night features the first-run documentary The Rooms of Raphael by Luca Criscenti. An in-depth look at the four rooms known as Raphael’s rooms in the Vatican Museums. The rooms are part of the apartment, located on the second floor of the Papal Palace, that Julius II della Rovere chose as his own residence and later used also by his successors. The pictorial decoration was done by Raphael and his pupils between 1508 and 1524 (so it was finished after the master’s death). As anticipated, a passionate and authoritative guide on this journey is Professor Antonio Paolucci, director of the Vatican Museums until 2016.
