Now available on Italy for Movies - the portal dedicated to locations and incentives for audiovisual production, promoted by the Ministry of Culture’s General Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual and developed by Cinecittà in collaboration with theItalian Film Commissions - is the new section SUL SET. This innovative tool, which is constantly updated, makes it possible to monitor in real time the filming of films and TV series underway in Italy, offering an overview of the state of national audiovisual production. The aim is to increase the transparency of the sector and contribute to give visibility and attractiveness to the Italian territory from an audiovisual and cinematographic point of view.
The project was born from the synergy between the General Directorate for Cinema and Audiovisual, Italy for Movies and the sector union SLC CGIL. For the first time, a systematic mapping of all active sets on the Italian territory has been carried out, with a sheet dedicated to each work. Each sheet provides detailed information, including the length of the shoot, the number of crew members, the locations chosen for the scenes, the type of funding received and the national collective agreement applied.
Through a search engine, it is possible to access all the information in the database, which maps active production in Italy as of November 2024, and filter the data according to various criteria, such as geographic location (by selecting region or city), format of the work (film, seriality, TV work), type of production (national, international, or co-production), and filming period. In addition to listing titles currently in production, the platform also offers statistical data on works being filmed, broken down by region, number of shooting days, format, genre, and production type.
All collected data can be exported in Excel or PDF format, making it easily searchable for statistical purposes and analysis.
“On Set” is an agile tool for analyzing and monitoring the situation of the film-audiovisual sector with a view to the growth of the entire sector, a goal that the Directorate General for Cinema and Audiovisual has always pursued. From today, operators in the sector will be able to tap into shared and systematized data such as the number of active sets in Italy, employment status, and the most sought-after locations with a few simple steps. This new section will help make the Italian territory an even more attractive set," said Cinema and Audiovisual Director General Nicola Borrelli.
“The new section, which takes the form of a navigable map of Italy in which all the works on the set at the time of consultation are displayed, is a relevant added value at the service of the audiovisual system. It is a strategic database that makes it possible to draw on reliable, systematized information, finally made public and transparent, which will contribute to increasing knowledge of the sector’s activities, both from a production and employment point of view,” said Chiara Sbarigia, president of Cinecittà, which manages the national Italy for Movies portal from an operational standpoint.
“We thought it would be useful to be able to enhance the data we already have, about employment, engaged professions and application of contracts, improving its scientific reliability. We hope that the information about the workers engaged in the sector and their professional characteristics, will become increasingly measurable and useful for all proper union activities. This useful tool can also gradually be implemented with more information and consulted by professionals, providing a service also to those who work in the sector or would like to work in it,” stressed Sabina Di Marco, Slc CGIL National Secretary for Cultural Production.
