Airing Monday, Dec. 27, at 7:15 p.m., as part of the Art Night program is The Hands of Art, a documentary directed by Daniele Rocca and Federico Giannini (editor and director of Windows on Art). The documentary closely follows the ways in which the works of great contemporary artists are created.
Today, major international artists, such as Maurizio Cattelan, Jan Fabre and others, are not the material authors of their works: the artist develops the idea, but the execution is often entrusted to specialized workshops that give shape to the artists’ concepts. It is inside these workshops that the documentary will let you in: we will discover how marble sculptures are created in a Carrara workshop and bronze sculptures in a Pietrasanta workshop, and we will hear the voices of those who run these workshops, as well as those of some of the great artists who have decided to rely on the wisdom of Italian artisans.
However, there are also those who, as in the Renaissance, still work the material themselves. This is the case of the duo Bertozzi & Casoni, great masters of world ceramics: the documentary closes by seeing up close how Bertozzi & Casoni work to bring their incredible works to life.
