On Saturday, July 11 at 10:10 p.m., the documentary film Ultra-Dorfles, dedicated to the life of Gillo Dorfles, will air on laF. An art and design critic, professor of aesthetics, painter and poet, he was one of the most important figures of the last century. The film was produced in 2018, the year of Dorfles’ death at the age of 107, and directed by Gabriele Raimondi: it recounts through images and the words of the protagonist himself more than a century of the famous critic’s life. Friends, colleagues and pupils, such as critics Lea Vergine, Vittorio Sgarbi, Vincenzo Trione and Luigi Sansone, semiologist Ugo Volli, architects Alessandro Mendini, Vittorio Gregotti and Mario Bellini, philosopher Aldo Colonetti and art historian Massimo Carboni also participated in the story.

Interviews and testimonies thus trace the artistic, professional and human biography of one of the greatest protagonists of contemporary culture.

Born in Trieste in 1910, Angelo Eugenio Dorfles, better known as Gillo, graduated in medicine and specialized in psychiatry, but he was always interested in art and aesthetics. He was himself a painter, taught aesthetics at the universities of Milan, Cagliari and Trieste, and in 1948 founded the Movimento per l’Arte Concreta, participating in one of the most fruitful seasons of Italian culture. His contribution was fundamental in definingcontemporary Italian art following the postwar period.

Through August 31, 2020, Ultra-Dorfles is also available on demand on Sky.
