Neri Marcorè will be the host of the next season of Art Night, Rai 5 ’s container dedicated to art, airing every Friday night with two documentaries of one hour each. The name of the new host, who will thus replace Alessio Aversa, was revealed this morning during the presentation of the RAI 2021-2022 programming schedules.
For the popular actor from the Marche region, this is the first time hosting an art program, but it is not, however, the first experience in a cultural program. Marcorè, from Porto Sant’Elpidio, born in 1966, had in fact been the host of the successful program Per un pugno di libri on Rai Tre from 2001 to 2011. Art lovers also remember Marcorè as Pope Innocent VIII in the third season of the drama I Medici, which aired on Rai Uno in the fall of 2019. Instead, several comedy or entertainment programs have seen him at the helm, from the satirical shows Mmmh! on Rai Due (2002) and NeriPoppins on Rai Tre (2013) to Celebration on Rai Uno (2017). For Marcorè, also an experience as host of the May Day Concertone in 2011 (the last edition of the single-host concert before the one in 2020).
Also for the 2021-2022 season, Art Night will be Rai5’s Friday primetime program. “From music to theater, from dance to opera, without forgetting art, the environment, Nature and all genres of music,” Rai writes in a note, “Rai5 confirms its semi-generalist mission as a network dedicated to cultural entertainment strongly linked to contemporary and performing arts.”
