Discovering the Etruscans with Alberto Angela: tonight on Rai1

Tonight a new episode of Ulysses, the pleasure of discovery will be aired on Rai1 at 9:25 p.m., and Alberto Angela will take viewers on a journey to discover the world of the Etruscans.

The journey will begin by flying over the Maremma region of Latium, particularly the archaeological area of Vulci, thanks to a helicopter of the Aircraft Regiment of the Arma, which collaborates with the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage. It will thus be possible to admire the vastness of one of the most important Etruscan settlements ever found. At Vulci, together with archaeologist Carlo Casi, Scientific Director of the Vulci Archaeological Park, we will witness the opening of a new tomb, dating back to the end of the seventh century B.C., hitherto untouched, and get a preview of the objects contained in the latter.

The journey will continue to the necropolis of Tarquinia and Cerveteri: here the stages of this pre-Roman civilization dating back some 3,000 years will be retraced. The Castle of Santa Severa will open its doors to the history of one of the most important ports of Etruria, Pyrgi, with its famous sanctuary, and the director of the Ancient Navigation Sea Museum, Flavio Enei, will show the latest archaeological discoveries.

Finally, the treasures of the National Archaeological Museum of Tarquinia, the works of the sought-after Etruscan metallurgical art and the precious collection of sarcophagi will be discovered.

The Etruscans were a fascinating people, whose traces continue to amaze thanks in part to the continuous discoveries in the area.
