Directed by Mary Harron, the same director as the cult film American Psycho, the film is set in 1974, when, at a new exhibition in New York, the artist makes the acquaintance of young James to whom he proposes to be his assistant. The young man accepts and becomes a witness to Dalí’s declining years: despite a glamorous social life, the artist is coming to terms with his old age and his conflicted relationship with his wife and former muse Gala, who is increasingly devoted to dating younger lovers and tied to money.

The cast includes, among others, Barbara Sukowa (who plays Gala Éluard Dalí), Ezra Miller (for him the part of Dalí as a young man), Christopher Briney and Andreja Pejic who plays Amanda Lear. The film had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, while in Italy it premiered at the 2022 Torino Film Festival.
