The second episode of the program Ulysses - The Pleasure of Discovery, hosted by Alberto Angela, to be aired tonight at 9:25 p.m. on Rai1, will be interamemte dedicated to Raphael Sanzio, on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of his death.
Starting from the Pantheon, where the Urbino artist is buried, Alberto Angela will begin a journey of discovery of the divine artist. The life and works of Raphael will be recounted in a well-rounded journey aimed at helping viewers understand how a young man born in a provincial town, Urbino, managed to find his place in an era that saw the simultaneous presence of two other great geniuses of the Renaissance, Leonardo and Michelangelo, until he became a divine artist loved by popes and acclaimed by princes and courtiers.
Raphael was a Renaissance man: a passionate lover of ancient art and its preservation, an innovative architect, stage designer, archaeologist, “manager” of one of the most exclusive workshops in all of art history, and even a poet. Many of his traces are still visible in the Eternal City, from the Vatican Palaces to the Domus Aurea, from the Roman Forum to the Villa Farnesina.
The journey through Raphael’s life and art will be accompanied by speeches by historians Lucio Villari, Antonio Forcellino and Nanà Cecchi, and interpretations by Gigi and Carlotta Proietti. This installment also counts the participation of Flavio Parenti, in the guise of the artist.
