Two young moviegoers return to the cinema and meet famous actors and actresses who welcome them engaged in the most varied tasks of a movie theater: this is the plot of the new short film All Star directed by Vicenzo Alfieri and written in Federico Mauro. Barbara Bobulova, Paolo Calabresi, Pierfrancesco Favino, Anna Foglietta, Elio Germano, Edoardo Leo, Giulia Michelini, Claudia Napolitano, Alice Pagani, Lillo Petrolo, Michele Placido, Benedetta Porcaroli, Vittoria Puccini, Greta Scarano, Sara Serraiocco, Alessandro Siani, Toni Servillo, Giuseppe Tornatore and Luka Zunic are the protagonists of ’exceptional short film at the center of a communication campaign, which kicks off today, Aug. 31, on the eve of the opening of the 78th Venice International Film Festival, carried out by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with ANICA, ANEC and Cinecittà that aims to invite people to return to theaters safely.
The short film recounts the afternoon of a young couple (Claudia Napolitano and Luka Zunic) who, on their way to the cinema to see a film, meet with great surprise the faces of Italian actresses, actors and directors in the guise of the most diverse professionals engaged in theaters: Edoardo Leo and Greta Scarano are also standing in line as mere moviegoers, Alessandro Siani is at the cash register along with Giulia Michelini and Sara Serraiocco, Lillo Petrolo and Paolo Calabresi are at the bar selling sodas and popcorn, Elio Germano is the cleaner, and Pierfrancesco Favino and Anna Foglietta are busy checking tickets before entry. The “strange encounters” continue in the auditorium where the young couple runs into Vittoria Puccini’s mask, Barbara Bobulova and Michele Placido pop up among the spectators, and in a succession of images Benedetta Porcaroli’s voice announces the start of the show, while Alice Pagani turns off the lights in the auditorium. Finally, an exceptional projectionist, Oscar-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore, turns on the screen and the camera frames a special smug viewer, Toni Servillo.
“Thanks to the Green Pass and the new security measures, culture is starting up again,” commented Culture Minister Dario Franceschini. “People feel safer and are returning to cinemas, theaters and museums. This is a very important fact, the pandemic has made us realize how culture is the lifeblood of our lives. So thank you to the whole world of cinema that has joined together with this short film to launch a choral appeal and invite Italians to return to theaters to experience the magic of cinema in safety.”
