A night at the Louvre among Leonardo's masterpieces. Exclusively at the cinema in September

Only on September 21, 22 and 23, 2020, exclusively in Italian cinemas, the documentary film A Night at the Louvre. Leonardo da Vinci

An extraordinary nighttime walk through the halls of the Louvre to admire the great masterpieces of Leonardo da Vinci: exclusively in Italian cinemas, only on September 21, 22, and 23, 2020, the first docu-film made in the Parisian museum specifically for cinemas in sixty countries around the world will be shown. It is A Night at the Louvre. Leonardo da Vinci, which will give everyone a chance to see the Louvre’s record-breaking exhibition, recording more than one million visitors.

The important exhibition that ended in February also achieved another first: it was the Louvre’s first retrospective entirely devoted to the entire output of the Tuscan genius, highlighting how the celebrated artist took painting to the highest level, in addition to all other research.

The night walk will be accompanied by the exhibition’s curators, Vincent Delieuvin and Louis Frank. The film was translated into thirty languages and took four nights of filming to make, using advanced technology with 5K cameras. It was directed by Pierre-Hubert Martin, who had input from the two curators, and handling the narration is Coraly Zahonero, a member of the Comédie-Française.

The film is the first title in the new season of The Great Art at the Movies and is a Pathé Live production in association with the Louvre Museum and Bel Air Media.

Throughout the school year, teachers will be able to organize special matinee screenings for their students at their nearest cinemas, and a special educational kit made by the Louvre Museum will be available free of charge to all teachers who request it (for details: progetto.scuole@nexodigital.it).

“It is a great honor to be associated with the Louvre Museum,” commented Thierry Fontaine, President of Pathé Live. “This exhibition has been a success and many people have not had the opportunity to enjoy it in person. The film screening will extend the extraordinary and fascinating work done by the curators of the exhibition as well as its impact on the general public around the world. I would like to thank the Louvre team for their passion, dedication and constant support in making this ambitious cultural project possible.”

“The exhibition dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci closed its doors at the end of February 2020, and we all felt a tinge of emotion when this exceptional gathering of works had to be interrupted,” added Jean-Luc Martinez, President and Director of the Louvre. “Pathé Live suggested making a film documentation of the event and I was immediately enthusiastic about the idea. The popularity of the Louvre’s website and social media during the lockdown confirms that there are many ways to make art accessible to the general public. The main mission of museums is to encourage live encounters with works, but our job is also to prepare and extend visits, encourage people to learn more about them, and learn how to look at art. This film makes that possible. It reveals the wonder of the pieces in the exhibition and celebrates the work of Vincent Delieuvin and Louis Frank, two of the world’s leading specialists on Leonardo da Vinci. It is also extraordinarily beautiful and I am delighted that it can bring the pleasure of admiring Leonardo’s works to so many viewers around the world.”
