A long-awaited TV series dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci airs on Rai Uno in March.

An air date has been announced for Leonardo, the series created by Frank Spotnitz and Steve Thompson (the same as The Medici) and directed by Dan Percival and Alexis Sweet dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci.

The event series will start on March 23 on Rai 1 and will consist of eight episodes that will be broadcast in pairs for a total of four evenings. The series was shot entirely in English in more than 50 locations - including interiors and exteriors - mainly in Lazio and involved about 500 staff members. Over 1900 hours were spent on the production, 3,000 extras and 2,500 costumes were used.

In the cast, along with Aidan Turner(Poldark, The Hobbit), who plays Leonardo Da Vinci, Giancarlo Giannini(Romanzo Famigliare, Catch 22) is Andrea del Verrocchio, Leonardo’s master; Matilda De Angelis(The Undoing, I ragazzi dello Zecchino d’Oro, Tutto può succedere) is Caterina da Cremona, the mysterious muse and dearest friend dearest; Freddie Highmore(The Good Doctor, Bates Motel) is Stefano Giraldi, a young investigator for the Podestà charged with solving the mystery at the center of the story; Carlos Cuevas(Merlì) is Salaì, Leonardo’s apprentice and trusted friend; and James D’Arcy(Homeland, Broadchurch) stars as Ludovico Sforza known as the Moor.
