Dreams and Joan Miró will be the protagonists of the first 2022 episode of Art Night, Rai5’s program on art hosted by Neri Marcorè. What links dreams and art? This question will be answered in the episode airing Friday, Jan. 7 at 9:15 p.m. with a documentary on Miró premiered by Rai: indeed, since time immemorial, artists in search of inspiration have rummaged through their own dream activity. From Mary Shelley who told of dreaming her Frankenstein, to Van Gogh who said, “I dream my paintings and then I paint my dreams,” without being able to forget the Surrealists who found truly precious material in dreams. And for Miró, as well as for the other Catalan Salvador Dalí, precisely the Surrealist movement, to which they both belonged, represented a significant stage in their artistic journey.
Art Night will begin, as anticipated, with the documentary Joan Miró. The Inner Fire. Miró is an iconic figure in the art world: the more time passes, the more universal his work becomes, crossing boundaries and genres. His work lives outside museums, on the walls of prestigious institutions, and his influence extends to design and architecture and can be seen in the most unexpected places. Thanks to this documentary by Albert Solé, which boasts the exceptional presence of Joan Punyet Miró, granddaughter and administrator of the artist’s legacy(click here to read an interview with her), as well as unpublished archives and privileged access to his work and studio, we will discover some of the less familiar facets of the painter: the private Miró, who could “by day be a treasure, and by night, a monster”; Miró the provocateur, as well as the Miró who was sensitive to the anguish of his compatriots. We will also evoke the pressures involved in managing the legacy of such an immense painter, a burden that falls on a single descendant, and the tragic fate of most of his family members.
Art Night continues with Salvador Dalí the craft of genius, a Teche Rai documentary that allows us to see Salvador Dalí at work in front of the cameras. An exhibitionist artist, always ready to amaze with his paintings, his mustache, his words. A volcanic character, told today by Vincenzo Trione, art critic, and Francesco Stocchi, curator Museo Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam).
Art Night is a program by Silvia De Felice and Emanuela Avallone, Massimo Favia, Alessandro Rossi, directed by Andrea Montemaggiori.
