In bookstores Lovers in Art, graphic novel chronicling ten famous couples in art history

From February 3, 2022, Lovers in Art, the graphic novel that recounts, through the main episodes of their lives, the aspirations, difficulties and complicities of ten famous couples in art history, arrives in bookstores. Illustrated by Giancarlo Ascari, aka Elfo, and Pia Valentinis, it is published by 24 ORE Cultura.

With over one hundred plates written and illustrated by four hands, Lovers in Art tells the stories of Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Elizabeth Siddal, August Rodin and Camille Claudel, Gustav Klimt and Emilie Flöge, Amedeo Modigliani and Jeanne Hébuterne, Vasily Kandinsky and Gabriele Münter, Pablo Picasso and Dora Maar, Salvador Dali and Gala, Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O’Keeffe, and Christo and Jeanne-Claude.The women of these couples who were not only “wives, lovers, or muses,” but painters, photographers, poets, and sculptors, who were also major players on the art scene.

The illustrators

Pia Valentinis - A graduate of the Art Institute of Udine, in her career she has illustrated children’s books with national and international publishing houses.

Giancarlo Ascari - Graduated in Architecture in 1976 from the Milan Polytechnic, where he lives. He is an illustrator and comic book author under the pseudonym Elfo. Since 1977 he has collaborated with texts and drawings to important Italian magazines and newspapers.
