The Madonna and Child in Santa Maria del Popolo is by Filippo Rusuti: the signature emerges from restoration

The Madonna and Child of Santa Maria del Popolo, the celebrated thirteenth-century work preserved in the Roman church, is by Filippo Rusuti (ca. 1255 - ca. 1325) . The latest restoration of the work has unearthed signature parts that would be referable to the great protagonist of Roman painting in the Middle Ages, together with Jacopo Torriti and Pietro Cavallini one of the three greats of late 13th-century Rome.
