Street art, a digital map to visit over 300 urban art venues in Emilia Romagna

Do you want to know where all the points of interest for street art enthusiasts can be found in Emilia Romagna? A digital map identifies more than three hundred places, divided into four macrocategories, to visit within the region.

Created in 2020, URBANER Urban Cultures Emilia-Romagna is the web portal created as a result of the City of Modena ’s desire to learn about and enhance the cultures that form in urban areas. The site is continuously updated and is divided into a news section, where initiatives, manifestations and events dedicated to urban cultures are published, and a Research section, within which there are interviews with the protagonists of the development of urban art in Emilia-Romagna and the map that collects the outcomes of the research L’ urban art and its cultural processes in Emilia-Romagna, the result of a collaboration between the Institute for Artistic, Cultural and Natural Heritage of Emilia-Romagna and the Department of Culture of the City of Modena.

The initiative is carried out by Pierpaolo Ascari and Pietro Rivasi, who investigate and deepen the themes related to urban art, such as writing, street art and contemporary muralism, from the need to rethink the role and modalities of art fruition.

In addition to mural interventions, the map identifies stores, art galleries, clubs, social centers and other places of aggregation and cultural production that have played a recognized role in the birth and evolution of these phenomena. It will soon be enriched with other projects already underway, such as Urban Art Festivals and Events; Galleries, Shops and Places of Cultural Production; Hall of fame, free walls and self-managed places of cultural production; and Spontaneous Works.

The map was created in collaboration with organizers of major festivals and key players in the urban scene.
