Art critic Milovan Farronato, as we announced to you yesterday, has been appointed curator of the Italian Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. We caught up with him for a warm comment and he told us that there will be three artists featured in his Italian Pavilion: “I am absolutely honored to receive this prestigious appointment and I thank the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Alberto Bonisoli, and the General Directorate for Contemporary Art and Architecture and Urban Peripheries, headed by Architect Federica Galloni, for the trust placed in the project I proposed. There will be three artists involved, whose names will be announced in due course.”
Milovan Farronato surpassed nine other curators who, like him, were vying for the role at the Italian Pavilion: they are Antonia Alampi, Laura Barreca, Andrea Bellini, Alfredo Cramerotti, Luigi Fassi, Andrea Lissoni, Bruna Roccasalva, Francesco Stocchi and Roberta Tenconi. The selection, they let the ministry know, “was conducted through the identification of personalities in the field who in recent years have carried out significant activities not only in the field of curating contemporary art exhibitions but also in the field of research. The choice was made taking into account the experience gained in the national and international field, also ensuring the presence of young and established professionals.”
