In Milan, in Via Pesto, between Via Tolstoi and Via San Cristoforo, a district entirely dedicated to Italian comics is being born: in fact, work has begun on the artistic redevelopment of the area thanks to Municipio 6, through a true comics district.
The project kicked off with the creation of an almost 500-square-meter mural depicting one of the most famous characters, Diabolik, not far from the work that in Via San Cristoforo pays homage to Guido Crepax and his Valentina. This initiative that celebrates Italian comic books, loved by young and old, in the Lombard capital was made possible after a year of work that saw the collaboration of the Municipio 6, Astorina Publishing House, the condominium of via Savona 97 (owner of the walls), MUDEC - Museo delle Culture di Milano, the artists of We Run the Streets and the technical and sconomic sponsors New Lac, Consorzio Bramante and Vibrostop.
Diabolik was conceived in 1962 by Milan’s Angela and Luciana Giussani and now his adventures take shape on the walls of this area of Giambellino. It is an opportunity to “make attractive a neighborhood that was inhospitable until a few months ago, celebrating the art of comics that represents an important part of our popular culture,” as commented by Santo Minniti, President of Municipio 6. The young artists of We Run the Streets will combine in a balanced way “the pen of great cartoonists and their spray cans,” said Prosa, a Milanese writer and president of the art association.
