The Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, through the Directorate General for Contemporary Creativity (DGCC), is about to launch the first scientific survey on the subject of urban creativity with the aim of arriving at an exploratory reconnaissance over the entire national territory: the final result will be the first Italian map of urban creativity, which will include street art works, murals and graffiti. The survey will be conducted in collaboration with Inward - National Observatory on Urban Creativity, with which MiBACT has an agreement.
The program that MiBACT is about to launch is in continuity with what has already been carried out by DGCC with the first reconnaissance of the heritage of contemporary outdoor works, which led to the publication of the Art in Public Spaces section within the Places of the Contemporary platform. The project, which will be titled Urban Creativity in Italy, aims to probe the topic of urban creativity in our country and to broaden knowledge on the subject: all of this will be flanked by scientific research that DGCC promises will be extensive and articulated from different points of view (historical-artistic, socio-cultural, normative, and other).
The valorization of contemporary art in public spaces, also in terms of urban redevelopment, is, after all, among the institutional tasks entrusted to the DGCC, as architect Margherita Guccione general director of Contemporary Creativity also recalls, explaining the terms of this important reconnaissance: “It is fundamental,” she said, “to have a clear and precise picture on the subject and we are satisfied to have started with Inward this program, with an explicit exploratory and cognitive value. It is a sign of consideration and interest on the part of this Directorate General towards a complex and dynamic reality that, although under everyone’s eyes, today needs cognitive attention in several aspects.”
