Coming to Milan ’s Piazza Duomo from January 31 to February 14, 2023 Now It’s Your Turn, the art installation of the Inside out project by French artist JR. After having carried out actions in major cities around the world and won numerous international awards, Inside out arrives in the Lombard capital with a new installation that will embrace the Arengario, home of the Museo del Novecento, and its twin building, the future extension of the museum itself, covering the facades of the buildings with a mosaic of faces. On Feb. 3, Inside out will also arrive in City Hall 4, where the exterior walls of the RSA “Coniugi e Ferrari,” on Via dei Cinquecento, will be covered with more than a hundred mega portraits of the facility’s guests, photographed by students of the Brera Academy.

Promoted by the City of Milan and Arts_for, the project is carried out in collaboration with the Museo del Novecento, the Office of Art in Public Spaces and City Hall 4, thanks to the support and active participation of Fondazione Amplifon.

The goal of the installations is to give voice to the elderly and raise awareness of the importance of their role and the confrontation between different generations. One thousand portraits, which will be exhibited in Piazza Duomo on an area of 700 square meters, have been made of elderly guests of forty Italian RSAs (Residenze Sanitarie per Anziani) that are part of “Ciao!”, the project launched in 2020 by Fondazione Amplifon to support the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly and the elderly and that has reached during these more than two years one hundred and fifty facilities.

Starting in May 2022, for about six months, students from the Photography Course of the Brera Academy visited forty Italian RSAs to meet the elderly and elderly guests and involve them in the project. During the visits, photographic portraits were made that will make up the installation along with portraits of some elderly and elderly women from the Vividown association and the Community of Sant’Egidio as well as the faces of some Ukrainian refugees and female refugees received in Moldova by the United Nations High Commission as part of a joint project with Amplifon Foundation.

The photographs visible on the walls of the buildings of the Museum of the Twentieth Century and on the second arengarium will be set up on scaffolding covered with micro-perforated PVC sheets, overlooking Piazza Duomo and Via Marconi. The installation work began at the Arengario on Jan. 23, while at the RSA on Via dei Cinquecento the posters will be put up by Amplifon Foundation volunteers during the morning of Feb. 3 (from 10 a.m. to noon), giving the city the faces and stories of the elderly residents of the facilities.
