An armchair on the highest peak of the Little Dolomites: the latest design by Andrea Bianconi

Starting Sunday, July 5, Andrea Bianconi's artist chair Sit down to have an idea will be placed on Cima Carega and will be a permanent installation.

An armchair on the highest peak of the Little Dolomites: this is the latest project of artist Andrea Bianconi.
Expedition Cima Carega, this is the title chosen for the artistic performance, will take one of the armchairs from the Sit down to have an idea project to the top of a mountain from Sunday, July 5.

The idea was born during forced confinement due to a medical emergency, from the desire to escape the walls of home and go to the top of a mountain to admire the view from above. In this way, the artist intends to bring art to a boundless, open space and enjoy the silence surrounded by mountains.

The Cima Carega Expedition initiative was carried out by the artist in collaboration with Casa Testori and Coppola Foundation, and it is the third stage of the project Bianconi is carrying out with the Cystic Fibrosis Research Foundation: signature bandanas will be created and the proceeds will be entirely donated to research.

The armchair star of the performance will be carried on the shoulders of a group of runners, who will start from Rifugio Revolto and arrive at Cima Carega, 2259 meters above sea level. The peak spans three regions: Trentino Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia; the initiative is made possible thanks to Durona Team runners.

Once placed on the summit, the armchair will become a permanent installation, and anyone who reaches the summit will be able to sit in the artist’s armchair and admire the beautiful view. The Fraccaroli refuge will be in charge of Andrea Bianconi’s work.

The project is curated by Giuseppe Frangi, who writes, “It is a physical landscape that has probably also become a mental landscape: we can imagine that in Bianconi’s childhood night dreams that mountain was the scene of who knows what adventures. Since an artist little or much always remains a child, Andrea’s dreams today are not much different. And among the dreams was perhaps that of making the mountain an extension of his own habitual spaces... Now he has imagined this upgrade: to take the armchair aloft as if it were a celebratory rite. To consign it to the rarefied space of the mountain so that it can guard it and she, from up there, can radiate the air below with its generous and positive emissions.”
