Academies decorate Rome Termini and Naples Central stations with public art

The Academies of Fine Arts in Rome and Naples collaborated on the Academies in Station public art project.

The Academies of Fine Arts of Rome and Naples have initiated the project Academies on Station. The tale of a journey that goes beyond the limits of the pandemic.

In Roma Termini station is the project materialized in Visioni d’Istanti, while in Napoli Centrale station in PopNapoliPop. So many young artists step out of the boundaries and interpret stations in freedom, overcoming constraints and restrictions, to express a feeling of strength and optimism toward the future with two moments of public art.

"Visions of Instants is a public art exhibition that is part of the redevelopment plan of Roma Termini station. Stations are places of departures, arrivals, waiting, greetings, shopping, meetings, moments that know how to remain indelible in our memories,“ the presentation reads. ”The moment is difficult, but it has given us the opportunity to experience exceptional cooperation, to cross boundaries. So many of us have worked together, and we want to share the excitement we felt working together united and thinking of you, here, in this station that is now also an unprecedented exhibition space and opportunity for visibility and meeting for our young people, for our artists. It is a message of hope for the future, for everyone. We can slow down, but we will not stop traveling, and while waiting to return to do so fully we give you these beautiful works: look at them, read them, they speak of us all.“ ”They are visions that fill the eyes nourishing the soul with lines, colors, shapes and signs that manifest themselves on the surfaces accompanying the travelers in the permanence and crossing of this space," he continues."Tales of young artists who confide in us through their seeing and feeling that they share common dreams. These works are designed for a process of making that belongs to our present, distant from a process that involves hands, but that in its making returns the warmth of gazes."

An exhibition itinerary that unfolds on large panels, on which students interpreted and narrated their station: from the Dinosaur seen through the eyes of a child, to the dream of a green station to the iconic clock. Under the entrance canopy eleven more panels show students’ reflections and thoughts.

PopNapoliPop consists of a mural covering about 400 square meters along Corso Novara. It depicts icons and symbolic places that have made the Neapolitan city unique in the world, such as the Maschio Angioino, Totò, pizza, Massimo Troisi, Maradona, San Gennaro, and the Giant’s fountain, all depicted in bright colors.

Academies in Station was made possible thanks to Professor Sabina Alessi of the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and Professor Rino Squillante of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and Professor Marco Gallo, with general coordination by Lavinia Giangreco (Sangit Agency).
