It is a monumental portrait of the famous painter that is inspired by the famous portrait of Monet taken by photographer Nadar, pseudonym of Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, in 1899, which is also one of the best-known shots of the Impressionist artist.

"Monet is a very great artist for me. He is a great colorist," C215 said.

The urban artwork was commissioned by the administration of the Val-d’Oise subprefecture, which invited C215 to create a mural depicting Claude Monet, ahead of European Heritage Days 2022, which will be held in September, during which the Claude Monet Impressionist House in Argenteuil will be inaugurated in the former home where the master of Impressionism lived.

The large mural was created on Monday, July 4, on Avenue Gabriel Péri; in addition, the street artist also painted a canvas for the occasion that will be displayed in the new cultural institution from Sept. 17.

The administration explained that the mural is intended to emphasize the link between Impressionists and urban art artists, as the former painted landscapes en plein air, while the latter painted cityscapes so that they could become places of artistic creation.
